Water Polo - Stirling retain Scottish Under 16 Title

At Tollcross in Glasgow on Sunday morning, Stirling faced Portobello in the final of the Scottish Championships to try and win the title that they first won in 2017. The Stirling players were fresh from a 13 – 4 Semi Final win against Dunfermline WPC on the previous Tuesday, 17 April and went into the Scottish Final in high spirits.

The 1st quarter was a tense affair with Stirling getting more shots on goal than their opponents but couldn’t convert their numerous chances but did enough to gain a narrow 2-1 lead. The 2nd quarter saw a different Stirling that were able to play their full press defence and fast break attacks and they quickly started taking their scoring chances and by the end of the quarter Stirling had an unassailable 9 – 1 lead.

The last 2 quarters saw Stirling rotate their Team and some slack play and lack of composure saw Portobello stage a fight back but Stirling ran out comfortable 14 – 9 winners.

A great effort by all in the Squad to retain the Scottish Title. The next target is to emulate the League and Cup Double achieved by last years Team. Stirling are currently sitting on top of the Scottish Under 16 League having drawn one game and won all the rest:

Team: Cameron Blance, Fraser MacNair (Capt), Leon Campbell, James Miller, Jamie Ralston, Kester Harris, Calum Addison, Holly Corkill, Shona Laverty, James Clafferty, Bruce Dickson, Rory MacNair & Dan George.

Not available for the final but played in the semi final: Rachel Luke and Jonny Hanson
